“The Medifast
Diet
Just Didn’t Work For Me & Unfortunately,
It
Likely Won’t Work for You Either!”
My Medifast
Diet
Experience
What you’ll
find in this open letter is information that will help you better
understand the Medifast
Diet approach to losing weight and my experience
with
it. I wish I had this information before I spent my hard earned money
on the Medifast Diet.
It's my hope that you will find
my
experiences and my recommendation to be of great value as you evaluate
your weight loss options.
Hi there.
My name is Jessica Seymour.
At the time I'm
writing this, I'm 38 years young and have a fantastic family of 5
including Craig my handsome hubby, and our 3 boys
- Conner, Alexander, and Trent. That's us below in a recent
picture.

I've been
pretty active and
physically fit for most of my life and didn't really have weight issues
until I gave birth to our first son Trent just over 5 years ago.
A year after giving birth to Trent, I still weighed 173 pounds and I
was so embarrassed about how much I weighed that I knew I had to do
something about it.
The extra
weight made my sleep fitful, my ankles
would swell up, and I would get headaches daily. Unfortunately though,
my body had so many aches and pains that I couldn’t find the energy or
will power to be more physically active, so I had to focus my efforts
on diet.
The first diet I tried was the Atkins
Diet. I had heard a lot
of mixed reviews about it over the years but decided to give it a shot
anyway just based on the fact that what stuck in my mind was how some
of my co-workers had dropped weight pretty quickly with it in the past.
You can read all about my Atkins experience further here.
My
next choice (because they make the food look so good in their
ads) was to try the Medifast
Meal Plan Diet program but
I should have known it wouldn't be that easy. My
Medifast experience proved to be a
short lived, eye opening experiment I’ll just call; “Can Guess what
meal you’re drinking now?” You can read about it further on down this
page.
I then joined LA
Weight Loss, but
that turned out to be a huge mistake for a number of reasons which you
can read all about here.
About six
months after my LA Weight Loss fiasco,
I decided to give dieting another shot with The
Zone Diet program at the urging of a good friend whose father
had seen
good
results with it. Learn more about my unsuccessful Zone Diet
experience here.
The good news
is that at the time of writing letter, I weigh in at a healthy
and happy 128 pounds, I've lost what was a significant belly and most
of my
butt and have maintained this weight within a
couple of pounds for over two years now.

This despite
my lack of success with Atkins, Medifast, LA Weight Loss and
The Zone Diet.
My secret
weapon is a comprehensive weight loss program that uses “
Calorie
Shifting”, to deliver results; But...
before
we get to what is working for me, please take a few minutes to
read about my experience with the Medifast Diet
program below.
About the Medifast Diet…
Medifast claims
its 5 & 1 Plan is a low-fat, low-carb, low-calorie diet plan
that allows the typical dieter to remain healthy while losing weight at
a rate substantially faster than one would lose under a traditional
diet plan.
In simple
terms, Medifast is designed to take individuals into a state known as
ketosis, which is actually a fancy name for starvation. This occurs
when the body’s supply of fats and dietary carbohydrates are interfered
with, so that blood sugar may not be utilized normally and fuel must
come from stored fat and muscle protein. This process creates a high
level of breakdown of fatty acids by the liver, which produces the
‘ketone bodies,’ along with Acetoacetate and B-Hydroxybutyrate, all of
which are released into the blood. In addition, they are also converted
to Acetone, which often causes bad breath in those who fast.
Their most
popular weight loss plan is most commonly known as the “5 and
1” diet. It uses an 800-1000 calorie model, which is made up
of 5 meal replacements and one "real" meal per day. The “real” meal
contains a lean protein, vegetables and salad. This developer claims
that individuals who use this system may lose 2-5 pounds per week.
However, these kinds of diets often cause individuals to feel sluggish
and zapped of energy, which may account for the large number of
failures.
Medifast Meals
come in individual packets that you mix with water and microwave or
refrigerate. Examples of their food offerings are shakes, soups, stew,
chili, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, fruit drinks, iced teas, hot beverages,
bars and puddings.
My experience
with the Medifast Diet…
As I'm a busy
wife and mother of 3 growing boys, I thought that the Medifast
option might be a good one
for me because I could eat their prepackaged foods while still cooking
regular meals for my family. This would save me having to
cook a special "diet meal" for myself I hoped... as I'd simply
whip up the Medifast foods for myself at meal
time. Unfortunately that didn't work so well as I
simply found the majority of their food products to be borderline
inedible.
The oatmeal and
the shakes are bland and borderline inedible. As for the other food
items I tried, I found the taste to be nonexistent or if there was a
taste it was nasty and bitter or gritty. Just not pleasant.
Weight loss for
me is not about torturing myself, so it’s important that I am able to
enjoy the foods I’m eating on any diet.
I stuck with
this diet for about 2 months eating the bad foods and always feeling
hungry… but the final kicker was that the weight loss was so slow
(slower than any other program I had tried) that it was impossible for
me to remain motivated. I just couldn’t see the goal line so
I eventually just gave up and didn’t bother reordering more
food.
You might think
hating the foods might be an advantage because it would make you not
want to eat but I went the opposite way. I was always hungry and
unsatisfied and as a result I craved unhealthy snacks and treats.
My Results…
If you like
food that has taste, and you like a diet that leads to reasonably quick
weight loss, you might not want to do this one.
While
I’ve heard of some people having long term success with this program,
in my view it is at best a short to mid-term strategy for losing weight
as
most people couldn’t live happily for any extended period on their 5
& 1 Plan.
3
Key Learning’s…
1) This diet is not
for you if you enjoy eating. I’m not talking about eating excessive
quantities of food (which is wrong) but rather enjoying the taste and
textures of your food.
2) If you’re looking
for quick weight loss to stay motivated, this is probably not the best
diet choice for you.
3) This diet is very
restrictive in terms of your food choices. If food variety is important
to you then Medifast would not be a good diet option for you.
My personal recommendation…
The Medifast Diet was not able to live up to my expectations in the
area of food, support or effectiveness. The ads look compelling
and the overview on their website looks promising - but ultimately
the program didn't work for me because I didn't enjoy eating the
foods.
As I mentioned earlier, after some trial
and error I did finally
find a program that I could work with and it's called
Fat
Loss For Idiots
As the name
implies, the
Fat
Loss For Idiots program really
is simple and it's also very inexpensive when compared to the other big
name diet options out there - but
don't let that fool you because it's
also extremely effective.
- A big
positive is that it works
without you needing to
radically change your lifestyle.
- It uses a
unique but simple approach called Calorie Shifting
which teaches you
how and when
to eat in order to turn your body into a fat burning furnace.
- It's convenient
because you eat
real food, that tastes great and that you buy at your local grocery
store for reasonable prices.
- You won't be
tempted to cheat because you eat 4-6
times per day, and NEVER feel hungry.
I'm
not
suggesting
this is an eat anything you like, as much as you like plan...but it
really is almost effortless, and the results are amazing!
You'll
change
your eating habits for life without even really trying.
That,
combined
with a real simple cardio plan worked wonders for me.
Ultimately,
I
guess I never really went on a "diet". I just changed my approach to
eating for the better, which helped me increase my energy and lose a
few pounds quickly, which enabled me to become more physically active.
It worked so
well, that my husband tried the “diet
thing” again and had
even better success than I did! Together, we reached our goal weights
and have been able to maintain them.
It's changed
our
lives and I'm confident that if you give it a fair shot, it can
change yours too!
Best of
luck, and
please be sure to
contact us to let us know about your success!!!
Yours
sincerely,
